Wycliffe

The British crime drama Wycliffe is adapted from W. J. Burley's books about DI Charles Wycliffe. After a pilot episode aired on August7,1993, HTV created the series, which ran on the ITV Network from July24,1994, until July5, 1998. There was a production office in Truro, Cornwall, where the show was shot. Nigel Hess, the composer of the series' music, won the Royal Television Society Award for Best Television Theme. Jack Shepherd portrays Wycliffe, with DS Doug Kersey and DS Lucy Lane as his colleagues. There is a murder mystery at the center of each episode. There are a number of classic whodunits in the first few seasons, typically with offbeat characters and story twists that are lifted straight from Burley's novels. The show's tone gets more realistic and the show's focus shifts from the criminal element to the police force in subsequent seasons.
