Soldier Soldier

Soldier Soldier is a drama series on British television. "Soldier, soldier, will you marry me, with your musket, fife, and drum?" asks the title of a traditional ballad. - the theme song for which was an instrumental rendition. From 1991 to 1997, it was produced by Central Television and broadcast on the ITV network for seven seasons and 82 episodes. It depicted the daily lives of troops in the 1st Battalion's 'B' Company. The fictional British Army infantry regiment The King's Fusiliers is based on the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. It is recognized as an accurate picture of army life in the early to mid-1990s, when the British Army was undergoing substantial upheaval, as it is set in the immediate aftermath of the Cold War. This is possibly best depicted in the third series, around 1994, when a large number of real regiments were forced to merge with one another owing to army cutbacks. The King's Fusiliers are compelled to merge with the Cumbrian Regiment, another fictional regiment, to form the King's Own Fusiliers in the world of Soldier Soldier. The fatality rate was minimal at the time Soldier Soldier was televised, with most deaths owing to training mishaps and suicides. More peacekeeping operations were allocated to the military as a whole than real combat deployments. As a result, the show did an excellent job of portraying the army in a positive light, notwithstanding any potential domestic issues.
