Salute Your Shorts

In the United States, the comedy television series Salute Your Shorts ran on Nickelodeon from 1991 to 1992 and continued to air in repeats on the network until early 1999. It was adapted from Steve Slavkin's novel Salute Your Shorts: Life at Summer Camp, which was published in 1986. The series took place in the fictional summer camp known as Camp Anawant to, which was filmed in Los Angeles' Griffith Park at locations including Franklin Canyon Park and the Griffith Park Boys Camp. It centers on teenage campers, their harsh and dictatorial counselor, and the various shenanigans and pranks that the campers get up to while they are there. The name of the book originates from a joke that is frequently played on one another by campers: a group of children take a boy's boxer shorts and hang them from a flagpole. As a result, when other children see them waving their arms like a flag, they will salute them as part of the practical joke.
