Power Play

Dramatic episodes of the Canadian television series Power Play were broadcast on CTV from the years 1998 to 2000. The action of the series took place at the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario. Michael Riley portrayed Brett Parker, a former sports agent in New York City who later became the general manager of a National Hockey League franchise called the Hamilton Steelheads. Riley played Parker on the show. The recurring love-hate relationships that Parker had with the sport, the team, and his boss at McArdle Industries, corporate executive Colleen Blessed, who was portrayed by Kari Matchett, were one of the storylines that ran throughout the series. In addition to him, Gordon Pinsent played the role of team owner Duff McArdle. Also featured in the cast were Jonathan Crombie, Jennifer Dale, and Al Waxman. The song that served as the show's theme was an updated rendition of the Stompin' Tom Connors classic "The Hockey Song." Connors personally contributed to the performance of the song in the beginning, and then the band Rusty took over from there. The program was yanked from the air after only two episodes had been aired on the US network UPN, where it had been airing since 1999. The second episode of the show to be broadcast in the United States holds the record for having the fewest viewers of any episode of any prime-time television show ever broadcast by any network in the United States.
