Love & War

Love & War

Love & War is a CBS comedy that aired from September 21, 1992, to February 1, 1995. Susan Dey played Wally Porter, a Chicago restaurateur, and Jay Thomas played Jack Stein, a sportswriter with whom she had an on-again, off-again relationship. The show's producers fired Dey after the first season, alleging that she and Thomas had "no chemistry." Dana Palladino, who purchased Porter's restaurant and became a love interest for Jack, was replaced by Annie Potts as Dana Palladino. In the first season, Jack and Wally would occasionally break the fourth wall and speak directly to the camera, usually to discuss an emotional issue. Later seasons dropped this mechanic. Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David made a cameo appearance in one episode as themselves as a "thank you" to creator Diane English for permitting a quick scene on Murphy Brown in a Seinfeld episode when Kramer is cast as the titular character's secretary. Suzie Plakson, Joanna Gleason, Joel Murray, Charles Robinson, and Michael Nouri were among the supporting cast members. John Hancock, who previously had a recurring role as a judge on L.A. Law alongside Susan Dey, played bartender Ike throughout the first half of season one until his death in late 1992 due to a heart attack. He was replaced by actor Charlie Robinson after his death was put into the script.
