I Spy

I Spy is an American television series that follows the adventures of a secret agent. It aired on NBC for a total of three seasons between the years 1965 and 1968 and starred Robert Culp as the professional tennis player Kelly Robinson and Bill Cosby as the character who served as Robinson's coach, Alexander Scott. The adventures of the protagonists as putative "tennis bums" provided a cover story masking their responsibilities as top operatives for the Pentagon. Robinson played brilliant tennis as an amateur with the wealthy in exchange for food and shelter, and Scott tagged along. Their actual jobs typically involved pursuing evildoers, spies, and beautiful women. This kept them very busy. The show's creators, David Friedkin and Morton Fine, as well as cinematographer Fouad Said, were responsible for its innovative content. Together, they established Three F Productions, which was housed within Desilu Studios, the facility that was responsible for the production of the show. Co-producers and head writers Fine and Friedkin were also responsible for writing the screenplays for all 16 episodes of the show, one of which Friedkin directed. Friedkin also tried his hand at acting and made guest appearances in a couple of episodes during the first season of the show. The executive producer was the actor and producer Sheldon Leonard, who was most well-known for performing gangster roles in films during the 1940s and 1950s. In addition, he appeared in a gangster-villain character in two different episodes, and he made a funny cameo appearance in a third show as himself. In addition to this, he helmed one episode of the series and served throughout its entirety as an occasional second-unit director.
