Dark Shadows

It first broadcast on ABC on weekdays from June 27, 1966, to April 2, 1971, and is an American gothic soap opera. Dan Curtis developed the series. Art Wallace's tale bible makes no reference to supernatural themes. When ghosts were first presented roughly six months into the show's run, it was a first for daytime television. Once vampire Barnabas Collins was introduced a year into the show's run, the show's ratings skyrocketed. The supernatural drama Dark Shadows also involved time travel, a parallel dimension, witches, warlocks, werewolves, zombies, and human-made creatures. A tiny cast of actors covered a wide range of characters, with some roles being played by multiple actors. Notable authors such as Malcolm Marmorstein, Sam Hall, Gordon Russell, and Violet Welles joined Art Wallace in the ranks of notable authors. The broad and epic galaxy of characters and heroic quests, coupled with the passionate performances and moody interiors, made Dark Shadows stand out. It has achieved classic status and continues to draw devoted fans. The original series only aired for five seasons, but due to its daytime slot, it amassed more episodes than any other English-language science fiction/fantasy television series, including Doctor Who and the whole Star Trek television franchise. In comparison, the supernatural drama Passions has 2,231 episodes.
