Daniel Deronda

Daniel Deronda is a British television serial drama based on the George Eliot novel of the same name, adapted by Andrew Davies. Tom Hooper directed the series, which was produced by Louis Marks and first aired on BBC One in three parts from November 23 to December 7, 2002. Hugh Dancy played Daniel Deronda, Romola Garai played Gwendolen Harleth, Hugh Bonneville played Henleigh Grandcourt, and Jodhi May played Mirah Lapidoth in the series. WGBH Boston provided co-production funds. After a protracted and failed casting procedure, Louis Marks decided to forgo his plan to make a film adaptation of the novel. It took another five years for the drama to be broadcast on television. From May through August, filming took place on locations in England, Scotland, and Malta for 11 weeks. Marks' final television project before his death in 2010 was the serial.
