Carlos is a 2010 biographical film about the life of the 1970s international terrorist, Carlos the Jackal, from his first series of attacks in 1973 until he was captured and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1994. The three-part TV miniseries premiered on Canal+ on 19 May, 26 May, and 2 June 2010 as a three-episode series. Out of competition screenings of the 512 hour version of the film were held at Cannes on the same day as the Canal+ premiere. Daniel Leconte of Film En Stock in France and Jens Meuer of Egoli Tossell Film in Germany produced the film, which was directed by Olivier Assayas from a script by Leconte, Assayas, and Dan Franck and starred Édgar Ramirez as Carlos. The film was co-produced by Canal+ and French Arte. The film is available in a variety of formats, including as a three-part miniseries, a feature picture with a running time ranging from 338 to 319 minutes, as well as multiple shortened editions clocking in at 187 to 166 minutes. In addition to the Golden Globe Award for 'Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television', Carlos has received numerous theatrical awards and TV awards, including the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Director, the National Society of Film Critics 2010 award for Best Director, and the New York Film Critics Circle 2010 award for Best Foreign Language F.
