Bread

In the UK, Carla Lane wrote and produced the sitcom Bread, which aired on BBC1 from May 1, 1986, until November 3, 1991. Nellie Boswell, the matriarch of the devoutly Catholic Boswell family in Liverpool's Dingle neighborhood, was the subject of the series, which followed the family as they struggled to survive in Thatcher's Britain without any outward sources of support. Elswick Street is the name of the street that appears at the beginning of each episode. It was revealed in interviews that the Boswell family from Lane's previous sitcom The Liver Birds was likely related to the one from Boswell. A woman known as "Lilo Lill" (Freddie) was Nellie's feckless and estranged husband, and he left her for her. On addition to benefit fraud and the selling of stolen goods, her children Joey, Jack, Adrian, Aveline, & Billy were still living in Kelsall Street and contributing money to the central family fund.
