They Rode West

Dr. Allen Seward (Robert Francis) is sent to a western cavalry post where his predecessors had been drunks and slackers. Even the people at the post don't like him, especially after he breaks the rules and helps sick Indians on the malaria-infected reservation. The Indians leave the reservation to move to a healthier, higher place, and when they join with the Comanches to attack the fort, Seward is called a "woodhawk," which is a bird that turns against its own kind. Donna Reed is there because she is the niece of the post commander. Phil Carey is a cavalry captain who thinks that the only good Indian is a dead Indian. May Wynn is the white girl raised by the Indians and married to the chief's son. Francis would only make two more movies before he died in a plane crash in 1955.
