The Shootout

Many of the biggest names in modern and classic Hong Kong cinema are featured in the action comedy The Shootout, which was released in the early 1990s. Fai, played by pop singer Aaron Kwok, is a young, inexperienced cop who makes an unintentional arrest among a group of thieves. The cruel gang leader Elvis Tsui infiltrates Police Headquarters to kill Fai, his own buddy. Fortunately, two "experienced" police officers, Lau (Sean Lau Ching Wan) and Ma (Leung Ka Yan), are called in to assist in the capture of the criminals. Min (Fennie Yuen), the club singer Fai is attracted to and the girlfriend of the main villain, assists them in their investigation. The police, thanks to their excellent work (and perhaps some good fortune), are able to reunite in time to prevent a bloody climax. The Shootout features grizzly brutality and hilarious, over-the-top action, but it's the charming leads and witty dialogue that keep it entertaining.
