The Cannonball Run

Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, which Brock Yates staged as a protest against the then-current U.S. speed restriction of 55 mph, served as the inspiration for a cross-country road race. When Erwin G. "Cannonball" Baker drove his motorbike across the country in the roaring twenties, it became known as the Cannonball. It's based on the ruses used by real Cannonball racers over the course of the event's existence.
