Director Yasujiro Ozu often talks about the difficulties of intergenerational relationships in his movies. Good Morning tells the story of two young boys who stop talking in protest when their parents don't buy them a TV set. Ozu weaves a lot of clever jokes into a family portrait that's as rich as his dramas. He makes fun of the flaws of the adult world through the eyes of his child protagonists, making fun of the things they do that adults do. The movie is set in a suburb of Tokyo, where housewives gossip about their neighbors' new washing machine and unemployed husbands look for work as door-to-door salesmen.
