Eight Men Out

The 1919 Chicago White Sox are the most depressing club to ever win a pennant. The team is enraged with both their penny-pinching owner, Charles Comiskey, and their own teammates. Gamblers take advantage of this occasion to offer selected players $in exchange for throwing the series (the majority of participants did not receive the whole amount promised.) However, Buck Weaver and the legendary Shoeless Joe Jackson return at the last moment to provide their best performance. The Red Sox came close to overturning a 3-1 deficit. Two years later, the truth is revealed, and the Sox face multiple lawsuits. Although the jury finds them innocent, baseball commissioner Landis has other ideas. Eight players are permanently suspended, and Buck Weaver spends the remainder of his years attempting to clear his name.
