Distant Voices, Still Lives

The second installment of Terence Davies' autobiographical trilogy (together with "Trilogy" and "The Long Day Closes") is an impressionistic depiction of a working-class family in 1940s and 1950s Liverpool, based on Davies' own family. Davies produces a truly moving picture album of a damaged family grappling with the complexities of love through a succession of stunning tableaux.
